Chair Allen read aloud the letter below at BCDP's "Had Enough?" Rally on March 6th, then hand-delivered it to the field office of Rep. David Rouzer in the Brunswick County Courthouse in Bolivia.
To: Congressman David Rouzer
"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
Mr. Rouzer, what your party is doing to our country’s sacred values — our Constitution and its Amendments — is unspeakable. There is no “Democracy” in “MAGA.” There is no “We the People.” There are only Moronic Authoritarians Gutting America.
Let’s start with Establishing Justice. Democrats defend equal rights, equal opportunity, and equal justice under the law. Meanwhile, the Trump/Musk administration is fanatically purging diversity, equity, and inclusion policies; making it harder for us to vote; and plotting to increase health care, child care, and housing costs for working Americans with a budget meant to line the pockets of the rich.
How about Providing for the Common Defense? Democrats have maintained a strong commitment to our military, our veterans, and our allies abroad. We value our membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which for more than 75 years has been committed to protecting its members in Europe and North America from any threat. We fully support the sovereign nation of Ukraine, which was illegally invaded by Russia in 2022. We advocate funding the Honoring our PACT Act (to provide health care to veterans exposed to toxins), and are steadfastly committed to ensuring the welfare of our vets.
You and most of your party voted against the PACT Act and are busily working to gut the VA. Trump and Musk want to pull the U.S. from NATO in a chilling move toward isolationism. MAGA has installed a wholly unqualified, alcoholic Fox News host as our Secretary of Defense. Even more horrifying and un-American, Trump, his lapdog Marco Rubio, and your entire party now bow in fealty to Vladimir Putin, shamelessly abandoning our ally, Ukraine.
What about Insuring Domestic Tranquility and Promoting the General Welfare? Democrats believe that a rising tide lifts all boats. We want a good quality of life for all, and are ready to extend a helping hand to those in need. We push to invest heavily in science, where hard evidence — not denialism and magical thinking — guides policy, including advancements in medicine, energy, environmental protections, and more.
What is the Trump/Musk administration doing? Terrorizing and firing thousands of critical federal employees. These civil servants help keep Americans healthy, make our air travel safe, protect and maintain our beautiful lands, care for our veterans, ensure the safety of our food and drugs, and so much more. Meanwhile, your president chose an anti-vaxxer crackpot to be our Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Further, your party’s leadership continues to sow hatred and division through both words and deeds. Musk’s cruel and abrupt dismissal of high-performing federal workers, combined with Trump’s signature venom spewed at everyone who doesn’t kneel before him, are the antithesis of leadership for “we the people.”
Finally, there is Securing the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and Our Posterity. Democrats fight to protect our freedoms and those of our descendants. Freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of assembly — our country was built on these first-order ideals. Your party is busily dismantling our progress towards “a more perfect union” by demonizing non-Christian religions, muzzling dissent, bullying the press, and threatening to deploy the military to silence protesters.
Speaking of freedom of assembly… how about a Town Hall to explain why you are happily supporting the fascist actions of the current administration? If you truly feel the steps being taken to dismantle our Democracy are in the best interests of this country and your constituents, stand up and defend them to us. Tell us how your choices are making our lives and this country better.
They’re not. You know. We know it. You and your party have crossed the Rubicon. We will work tirelessly to defeat you in 2026, and we will never stop fighting like hell for our Democracy.
