Graham and Beasley Will Put Children's Lives First, Brunswick Beacon, June 9, 2022

In Uvalde, Texas 19 fourth grade students and two teachers were killed by a shooter old enough to buy guns but not beer. It was the 30th school shooting this year. In 2020, firearms became the #1 cause of death for America’s children.

In Dallas, NBA coach Steve Kerr spoke before his team’s game. "When are we going to do something," Kerr yelled. “There’s 50 [Republican] senators, right now, who refuse to vote on H.R. 8...There’s a reason they won’t vote on it: to hold on to power… I ask you, ‘Are you going to put your own desire for power ahead of the lives of our children?”

H.R. 8 closes the so-called “gun show loophole”, extending background checks to gun sales between private parties. A 2019 Fox News poll found 90% of Americans in support. Still, Congressman David Rouzer voted “No.” Republican senators refused to even consider it.

It was reintroduced in 2021. Again, Rouzer voted “No.” It passed the House, but Republican senators are again blocking it.

Rouzer and senators Burr and Tillis put the gun lobby and their desire for power ahead of our children’s lives because they owe their careers to gun money. Rouzer took $200,000 from gun lobbyists. Tillis took $4.4 million. Burr took $7 million!

Charles Graham is running against Rouzer. Graham is a state legislator, small business owner, former educator and high school basketball coach.

Cheri Beasley is running for senate against gun store owner Ted Budd who speculated that the Sandy Hook school massacre boosted gun sales. Budd IS the gun lobby. Beasley is an attorney, wife, mother of twins, and former Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court.

Graham and Beasley will put our children’s lives first and pass universal background checks.

You can make schools safer and protect our children by electing Charles Graham and Cheri Beasley.
