HARRIS-WALZ CAMPAIGN TO OPEN FIELD

OFFICE IN BRUNSWICK COUNTY

The Harris-Walz campaign is opening a full-time campaign field office in Brunswick County. The presidential campaign’s heightened presence in southeastern North Carolina marks the first time since Barack Obama occupied the Oval Office more than a decade ago a nationwide political operation has opened for business in the county.

The announcement is the latest in a series of events elevating the role North Carolina will have on Election Day. Already, there are signs voters in the state will have an outsized voice in national results:

  • The Democratic Party honored Governor Roy Cooper last week, selecting him to nominate Kamala Harris at its national convention.

  • The influential Cook Political Report has moved North Carolina from leaning Republican to the tossup category.

  • Similarly, polls indicate voter preferences are swinging to Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz.

  • Reliable press sources suggest growing numbers of North Carolina Republicans are disaffected with their ticket, including GOP candidates Michael Robinson and superintendent of Education Michelle Morrow, both of whom have publicly advocated killing politicians with whom they disagree.

Meanwhile, enthusiasm for Democratic candidates in Brunswick County is growing, with a blue wave of partisan and unaffiliated voters set to cast their ballots starting with early voting on Oct. 17. An enthusiastic crowd of over 300 supporters turned out last week in Leland to welcome Josh Stein, their candidate for governor. It was his second trip to Brunswick County since he launched his campaign.

Jeff Jackson, Democrat for state attorney general, will speak at BCDP headquarters Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 3:30 p.m.
