If you pay your federal taxes dutifully, you’ll be getting a lot less for your money if Trump is reelected. Among the casualties: the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA. As we’re reeling from recent hurricanes, Project 2025 would eliminate the “daily weather forecasts, severe storm warnings, and climate monitoring” on which millions of Americans depend to protect life, property, and business interests. Project 2025 would replace NOAA with commercial for-profit weather services. That’s the MAGA way. Enrich the few, screw over the little people, and laugh all the way to the bank.
What was NOAA’s unforgiveable sin that got them onto the Project 2025 “hit list?” They claimed that climate change was influencing our weather, producing larger, more powerful hurricanes, tornadoes, dust storms, extreme temperatures, and floods, while exacerbating wildfires and crop damage.
Climate change is real, and it’s time to adjust our lives accordingly. You can see climate change impacts for yourself. When Hurricane Helene destroyed entire towns in the mountains of North Carolina, and 100-year-rain events happen several times a year, that’s not normal. When roads, bridges, and homes wash away time after time, that’s not normal.
If the endless scenes of environmental carnage don’t convince you, check your homeowner’s insurance bill. The folks paid to calculate risks recognize that your home – and your community’s infrastructure - can’t withstand climate change impacts.
Meanwhile, MAGA politicians consistently downplay climate change and fight the Biden and Harris initiatives to embrace clean energy and strengthen our infrastructure. Trump has vowed to undo climate change progress if he’s reelected.
Trump recently called climate change, “the greatest scam of all time” and joked about gaining “more beachfront property.” Don’t be fooled. Trump absolutely believes in sea level rise: he fought to build a seawall to safeguard his coastal golf course in Doonbeg Ireland. Trump’s message is clear: my properties need to be protected; yours don’t. Vote accordingly.
