Letter to the editor: The fish rots from the head down, Brunswick Beacon

Mark Robinson is the Republican nominee for governor because Trump picked him.

Trump called Robinson “an outstanding person” and “incredible gentleman” who “we have to cherish.” Trump said, “I’ve gotten to know him so well,” and called Robinson “Martin Luther King on steroids,” adding, “I think you’re better than Martin Luther King.”

Robinson got 65% of Republican primary votes, defeating State Treasurer Dale Folwell.

CNN reports that Robinson posted on the porn site “Nude Africa” calling himself a “Black Nazi” and “perv” who likes “watching tranny-on-girl porn.” Robinson listed his full name on “Nude Africa” with an email address he has used on various websites “for decades.”

Regarding celebrities having abortions, Robinson wrote, “I don’t care. I just wanna see the sex tape!”

He wrote, “I’d take Hitler over any of the [expletive] that’s in Washington right now!” Robinson also wrote, “Slavery is not bad. Some people need to be slaves. I wish they would bring it back. I would certainly buy a few.”

When the story broke, some Republicans called on Robinson to step down. Folwell said the only people who could get Robinson to withdraw are Trump and RNC Chair Micheal Whatley, because “they’re the ones who selected him.”

Long before these latest revelations, and before Trump’s ringing endorsement, Republicans knew Robinson had defended Hitler and dismissed the Holocaust as “a bunch of hogwash.” They knew he said, “I absolutely want to go back to the America where women couldn’t vote.” And they saw video of him in church yelling, “Some folks need killing! It’s time for somebody to say it!” Trump and his MAGA base knew, and they liked what they saw.

That’s because Trump has remade the GOP in his image. When an indicted insurrectionist, convicted felon awaiting sentencing and adjudicated rapist leads your party, it’s easy for his followers to support a self-described peeping Tom, Black Nazi perv and wannabe slave owner.
