Local Democratic candidates in the general election (but not in the primary)


Our candidates pictured do not have primary opponents, so they won't appear on your primary ballot. They will be on your general election ballot this fall.


U.S. House of Representatives, District 7

Marlando D. Pridgen

Marlando is the CEO and president of the International Center for Educational and Economic Advancement, which works at the grassroots level to create economic and community development. His vision is to build a more equitable and prosperous future for all citizens, guided by the principles of justice, fairness, and community collaboration.


NC State Senate, District 8

Katherine Randall

Katie earned her Ph.D. from Virginia Tech. She is an associate director at the Church World Service Neighbor Network, a collective of community groups, churches, and other organizations engaged in humanitarian efforts.


NC House of Representatives, District 17

Charles Jones

A former Wilmington police officer, Charles is running for the General Assembly to “take back what is rightfully everyone’s,” including the right to vote and the right to make our own health choices.


NC House of Representatives, District 19

Jill Brown

A Southport resident with a background in health services, Jill is entering the political arena to “stand up to the extreme right and its crusade to destroy our democracy and infringe upon our individual rights.”


Brunswick County Board of Education, District 4

Janis Simmons

A 50-year resident of Brunswick County, Janis is a retired classroom teacher with 33 years of experience in North Carolina public schools. She is active in community service and education organizations.


Brunswick County Board of Commissioners, District 5

Jonathan Damico

A Leland resident, Jonathan spent a decade with a Christian humanitarian aid and development organization, working within international and domestic aid operations. He is currently employed by the Department of Health and Human Services in New Hanover County.


Brunswick County Board of Commissioners, District 4

Tom Simmons

Currently serving as chair of the NCDP 7th Congressional District, Tom is active in the county, with service on various boards and two terms on the Boiling Springs Lake City Council. He is a retired public school administrator.


Brunswick County Board of Commissioners, District 3

*Robert Fulton

Bob stepped up to run after the filing deadline, so he's petitioning to get on the ballot as an unaffiliated candidate (the only option after the deadline). Bob is a U.S. Army veteran, an FAA Aviation safety inspector, and a National Marine Fisheries researcher. He is advocating for smart growth that takes into account infrastructure needs and the environment.

Acquinetta Rochelle Beatty

A Bolivia resident, Acquinetta has served as the director of New Choices at YWCA Lower Cape Fear and as the director of Coastal Women’s Ventures at the Carolina Small Business Development Fund.
