Commenters on the Harris-Trump debate agree: Harris had Trump for dinner. They differ on when, as Hannibal Lecter would say, Trump served himself up “with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.”

Some claim it happened when Harris strode confidently toward Trump, who dodged and weaved to avoid her, retreating behind his lectern. Harris cornered him there, forcing Trump to awkwardly shake her hand.

Others say it came when Trump lied that some states allow babies to be “executed” after birth, a charge so insane that moderator Linsey Davis noted: “There is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it's born.”

Some claim it happened when Trump told women that repealing their right to choose was “what everybody wanted. Democrats, Republicans and everybody else.” Only a conman tells people he knows their minds better than they do. Trump has done it his entire life.

Others say it came when Trump had no response after Harris said, “I have talked with military leaders, some of whom worked with you. And they say you're a disgrace.”

Some claim it happened when Trump refused to say it’s in America’s best interest for Ukraine to defeat Russia. Harris said Trump would surrender Ukraine to Russia to curry favor with Putin, “who would eat you for lunch.”

I think it came when Harris reminded Americans that Trump killed the bipartisan immigration bill because he’d rather run on immigration than fix it. Unable to deny that, Trump instead yelled, “They’re eating the dogs! They’re eating the cats! They’re eating the pets of the people that live there!” Trump ran his same old tired playbook, repeating debunked racist lies about legal Haitian immigrants.

Harris baited Trump on his crowds, on getting fired by 81 million voters, on his January 6 insurrection, and on his 34 felony convictions. Trump took the bait every time. Anyone that weak-minded and easily manipulated should never be Commander-in-Chief.
