This "Razzberry Report" is the first in a series of articles intended to spotlight votes by Rep. David Rouzer and Rep. Ted Budd that demonstrate they are unfit to represent the people of North Carolina in the Congress of the United States.
As the January 6 Hearings Expose the Big Lie, Remember that Rouzer, Budd Voted to Overturn the Election
With millions of Americans tuning in to see the House Committee hearings on the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, remember the role two North Carolina legislators played in supporting the idea that the election was stolen.
The hearings are laying bare how that Big Lie was perpetrated by President Donald Trump. The testimony has clearly demonstrated that Trump knew he had lost, but continued falsely promoting the notion the election was stolen.
Congressmen David Rouzer, our present congressman, and Ted Budd, running for a U.S. Senate seat, fell for the scam. They were all in on January 6 with their support for Trump.
Hours after the January 6, 2021 attack by a mob of Trump supporters failed to deter Congress from accepting the votes of the 2020 presidential election, Rouzer and Budd sided with the mob. They voted to reject state-certified vote counts that gave Joseph Biden his victory.
In voting to disallow the votes cast by millions of citizens in several states, Rouzer and Budd will forever be linked to that Big Lie — Trump’s discredited assertion he won the presidential election of 2020.
To support his position, Rouzer claimed public confidence in a presidential election “has never been lower.” He also claimed several states experienced “irregularities” and “clear violations of the U.S. Constitution.”
Ironically, Trump and radical Republicans like Rouzer and Budd created public distrust. Further, the January 6 hearings are clearly demonstrating it was Trump and his followers who were violating the Constitution.
Rouzer’s analysis was wrong, as was clearly demonstrated by the courts, where the Trump campaign filed 60 suits in contested states designed to overturn those results. He lost every time. There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud or irregularities.
Rouzer, like 146 other GOP members of Congress, simply chose to side with Trump’s Big Lie and against our democracy.
Meanwhile, Budd, who is now running for the U.S. Senate, voted in lockstep with Rouzer on January 6. But on September 21, 2021, he changed his mind. When asked whether Biden won the election “fair and square,” Budd said “He did. He’s the legitimate president.” This admission came three months after Trump endorsed Budd in his Senate race.
So, which is it, Rep. Budd? Do you support Donald Trump and his lies, or are you disavowing the Big Lie?
And as for you, Rep. Rouzer, what are you going to tell the voters of the 7th Congressional District who want to know why you supported a mob of angry seditionists intent on destroying the foundations of American democracy by voting to overturn the legitimate election of an American president?
