Last year, President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act, a law passed by Congress that includes a price cap for insulin at $35 per month for seniors. After he signed the bill into law, the president called on pharma companies to bring prices down for everyone on their own.
On February 28, Eli Lilly, a major pharmaceutical company, did just that, announcing it would cap the cost of its insulin at $35 a month. Eli Lilly and two other pharmaceutical companies dominate the market for insulin, providing their products to more than 8 million Americans.
This important event comes no thanks to our own congressman, Republican David Rouzer. In fact, Rep. Rouzer voted against the Inflation Reduction Act. And lest we forget: GOP senators went out of their way to strip out a provision from the Inflation Reduction Act that also would have capped the cost of insulin at $35 for Americans on private insurance.
House Republicans even pledged to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act — an action that would raise prescription drug costs for millions of Americans.
Let’s be clear. Republicans have no interest in the health and well-being of Brunswick County residents or Americans anywhere. But President Biden and the Democratic Party are fighting for everyone.
