Rouzer Blames Gun Killings on You, Brunswick Beacon, June 9, 2022

On May 14, an 18-year-old shot 13 people in a Buffalo supermarket with an AR-15 style semi-automatic rifle. Ten died. On May 24, another 18-year-old used an AR-15 style rifle to shoot 37 people at an elementary school in Uvalde Texas. Twenty-one died, including 19 third and fourth graders and two teachers. When asked to comment Congressman David Rouzer wrote 232 words on the subject. Not one of them was “gun.”

Instead, he blamed “a moral and spiritual crisis” in America caused by the fact that “families, churches and communities” no longer know “every young person,” no longer teach values, and no longer have high standards. He blamed you for abandoning your kids to “the negative influences of TV, radio, the internet, and social media.”

It’s all a lie.

Among wealthy, industrialized countries, America is BY FAR the most religious. A 2018 Pew Research study found more than half of American adults (55%) say they pray daily, compared with 25% in Canada, 18% in Australia and 6% in Great Britain. The European average is 22%.

All of them consume the same TV, radio, internet and social media as America. The difference is guns.

America has about 4% of the world’s population, but 46% of privately owned guns. We have 121 firearms per 100 residents! Our firearm death rate is five times that of Canada, over 10 times that of Australia and 35 times that of the United Kingdom.

Guns are now the leading cause of death for American children. Rouzer refuses to say the word “gun” because he helped make that happen. He has voted against every gun safety measure, including background checks, which are supported by 90% of Americans! The NRA calls him “solidly pro-gun” and gave him $200,000 in campaign contributions.

Gun killings are not your fault. But they will be if you reelect “solidly pro-gun” David Rouzer.
