Brunswick County Democratic Party Chair Shelley Allen on President Joe Biden’s decision
“President Joe Biden made a courageous, selfless decision today to withdraw from this year’s national election. He said in part:
‘It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.’
America is in a better place, thanks to Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and their administration. We thank President Biden for his lifetime of service and sacrifice on behalf of our nation, and we respect his statesman-like decision. We look forward to vigorously supporting Kamala Harris and her running mate this November.
We must honor Joe Biden’s legacy — and our own — by ensuring that Democrats are elected up and down the ballot this fall. We face an existential threat from the extremist, authoritarian top of the MAGA ticket, as well as the shameful GOP candidates littering the rest of our ballots in North Carolina and Brunswick County.
Every single one of our votes matters. It’s up to us to defend our Democracy and keep our country moving in the direction the Biden-Harris administration has set for us: one of compassionate, inclusive governance at all levels. Onward, Team Democracy — let’s get to work and finish the job!"
