Brunswick is a diverse county without diversity in our government representatives. When representing people from a variety of backgrounds, it’s important to understand their perspectives. This can help strengthen our local communities, ensuring they work together for the benefit of all.
The voters need to be more concerned about the candidates’ position on issues instead of what party they represent.
Some of our elected officials do not represent or even consider the views of people other than those in their own political party. Worse yet are the incumbents who are more interested in re-election and their own welfare than those of their constituents.
Brunswick County needs a more balanced leadership team to see problems from different angles and to resolve them more effectively. Debate and difference of opinion are healthy and is a basic right.
Having more than one party on the board would make our leadership more effective and accountable. They need to focus on facts rather than personal bias and have a more balanced viewpoint.
For too many years the voters of our county have elected the candidates that represent their party and not necessarily their concerns. This has gotten us to a place many of us don’t want to be.
I urge all voters to learn where the candidates stand on the local issues and support the candidates not the party. You should split your vote among the parties and elect your candidate not the party’s. It’s time to vote for a change.
